What is a Swim Lab?
It is a purpose-built indoor swim training pool, also known as a swim-in-place pool, equipped with an underwater mirror and video cameras above and below water. You swim against an adjustable current, see yourself in action on a wall display and, with the help of your coach, improve your technique and stroke efficiency.
What are the specifics of your swim lab?
Our swim Lab is situated on private property behind our home. It was built for the purpose: comfortably heated and ventilated, well illuminated, equipped with bathroom/change room & shower and with ample deck space for stretching exercises.
What are the benefits of lessons and coaching in a swim lab?
Privacy, one-on-one personal attention from an experienced and qualified instructor/coach, immediate feedback and faster improvement than is possible in a public pool. And the environment: quiet, and without the distractions (loud music, background din and lively chaos) characteristic of public pools. A more enjoyable and results-oriented experience than is available in a public pool setting.
Is the swim lab suitable for beginners?
Most certainly. The water depth is 42” and the variable speed current can be adjusted to suit any swimmer. I love helping new swimmers – children and adults – develop confidence in the water.
What can I expect in a typical session?
A warm welcome, a quick pre-swim shower, brief discussion, ample pool time & feedback, post-swim shower, a little homework (drills, practice notes) until your next visit. Note: Session duration (from arrival to departure) often exceeds the allocated session time so allow extra time in your schedule.
What should I bring to a swim session?
Bathing suit, towel, cap, goggles, and a good attitude.
Can I bring a guest (parents, coach, etc.) to observe?
Yes, of course. Parents and invited guests are welcome but no more than one or two per session, please.
Is the Swim Lab heated?
Yes. The building and pool are continuously heated. The pool is maintained at 30 degrees C (86 degrees F).
Is the pool chlorinated?
Yes, but only mildly. Pool chemistry is regularly checked and balanced as necessary.
Are sessions at regularly scheduled times?
No. All sessions are by appointment.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Cash
Are you licenced as a business?
Yes, by the Municipality of Saanich.
Are you insured?
Yes, we maintain commercial business insurance.
Is parking available?
Yes, we have ample room for cars on the paved area near the garage. Please park facing the stone wall.
